As an Owner for your SharePoint site, it may be necessary for you to modify the permissions for your site such that you add member's or restrict who can view or edit documents.
Add users to your SharePoint site.
Please locate the settings gear icon in the upper right corner of the site to access settings, then select Site permissions.
The panel will change to the Permissions view. Please select Advanced permissions settings.
You will select the appropriate group to add the new user to.
Note: Users listed as Owners have full control over the SharePoint site, and have access to the second stage recycle bin.
Select New, and Add users to this group.
Type in the name or email address of the user you would like to invite, select their name from the drop down, and select the Share button.
This will send an email to the user informing them they have been invited to the SharePoint site, and provide them with the appropriate level of access.
File and Folder Permissions.
It might be necessary to modify individual folder or file permissions to prevent a user from editing, or even viewing the contents of these items.
Locate the item that you wish to adjust permissions on. When you place your mouse cursor over the item you wish to modify, a menu button with 3 dots appears to the right of the item name.
Select this menu button, then select the Manage access option
From here you can add or remove individual users permissions. As an example, I may only want the owners of the site to have access to this particular folder. In this case I would select Groups at the top, then I would select the members group. You can see currently members have edit access. Select the level of access and select "Remove direct access". Users of the members group will now no longer be able to see this item.
If you need to add this group back, you will need to select the Grant access button in the upper right.
You will then be presented with a search box. If you need to add the members group back, you will need to type the full name of the group before the appropriate search result displays. In this example, we need to search for the "SharePoint Training and Documentation Members" group. If not done correctly, the appropriate group will not display in the search results, and you will not be able to give permissions to the right people.
Afterwards you can select the Grant access button, and the permissions are restored.
