About Azure VDI (Formally VMware Horizon)

Azure VDI machines are multi-user, purpose built virtual desktops that can be accessed on or off site. They are provisioned on the Azure compute platform which allows for quick access to an ECE or MAE machine WITHOUT the use of the UCCS VPN!

This service is provided to support students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) to access department specific licensed software.

Available Software (Depending on Department)

General Software - Office365, PuTTY, WinSCP

MAE - Comsol, Matlab, Solidworks, System Tool Kit

ECE - Ansoft/ADS, KiCad, LTspice, ModelSim, NoMachine, Tera Term, Visual Studio 2022, Visual Studio Code

(If specific software is needed and not present on the VDI systems, please inform your professor as soon as possible and ask them to create a software request with IT).

Access VDI Virtual Desktop

Step 1: Go to https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com/arm/webclient/index.html

Step 2: Sign in using your uccs.edu email address

Step 3: Select the virtual desktop you want to use

The desktops are clearly labeled and you will only see the resources assigned to you by EAS IT. The Open Lab Desktop II is the VDI lab that all students have access to. If you just need a machine connected to the on-campus network and aren't using any ECE or MAE specific software, use this desktop to keep load on the EAS virtual lab lower.

If you do not see the EAS Virtual Lab desktop pool, and you are in one of the engineering courses that requires licensed software provided by the Azure VDI system, please ask your professor to request access for you.
