Every network device has a unique MAC address that it uses to identify itself to the networks it connects to. Instructions on how to find your device's MAC address are below. The MAC address is often useful to have for troubleshooting network connection problems.

MAC addresses can be referred to by many names, including: physical address, hardware address, ethernet address, wifi address, etc.

Here is an example of what a MAC address looks like:  a6:21:c3:31:f3:60      They can also use dash (-) or dot (.) formats and may look like this: a6-21-c3-31-f3-60 or a621.c331.f360

A wireless adapter will have its own MAC address, and a wired port will also have its own MAC address. So be sure you are looking for the correct MAC address depending on your connection type (wired or wireless).

What if my device isn't listed?

Due to the large number of vendors and devices, its hard to list instructions for every single device. Here are some suggestions...

  • In general there should be a Settings menu somewhere (or an About section, or a Network section) where you can usually find mac address info. You can dig around your settings and see what you can find.
  • Google can be helpful! Try googling the name of your device along with "find mac address." (For example, you could try googling "how do I find visio tv mac address")
  • You can also check the manufacturers website or documentation
